Description

This introduction to Riemann Sums will have your students analyzing and determining the visualization of Riemann sums, and how curves are partitioned.

Included:

  • 10 task (Station) cards. Students are given the function, the interval, the number of partitions, and the method used to determine the partition. They analyze and determine which of four graphs matches these conditions. The methods of partitioning in this activity are right endpoint, left endpoint, and midpoint. Students are not finding the sum. Many of the examples can lead to good discussions as to why the wrong answers are not correct. The problems include a good mix or functions including polynomial, trig, square root, and absolute value functions.
  • Additional Handout with problems for students to sketch partitions based upon the right endpoint, left endpoint, and midpoint methods. The handout can be used as enrichment, homework, group work, or as an assessment.
  • All Answer keys including a QR version of the Task Card answer key so this activity can be self checking. Students do not need to be on the internet to use the QR’s, but must have a device with a QR reader app installed.
  • Student recording sheet.
