Successive blending is a technique used to help students that struggle with blending more than two sounds (phonemes). Students blend the first two phonemes and then blend the complete CVC word by adding the final sound.

How to use the CVC Word Successive Blending Task Cards?

  • Students start at the top of the task card and sound out each phoneme.
  • They then progress to the next line and blend the first two phonemes before sliding to and blending the final phoneme.
  • Finally, students blend all the phonemes to read the CVC word.
  • Once students read the complete CVC word they can uncover the picture to check if they read the word correctly.
