Description

I found that my students struggled with games and activities that required them to work with blackline coins. It was hard for them to visually discriminate between the images that are frequently presented in math curriculums. For that reason, this Create a Dollar Money Game was designed using actual coin photos.

The packet was designed to be used in 2 ways.

The first is to play a card game called Dollar Collection. In order to play, students need to count the coins shown on their cards and create pairs that equal $1.00. This can be used as a game, math center, or whole class activity using a pocket chart or document camera. There is an optional recording sheet.

The second is a simple count and record game called Counting Coins. There is a recording sheet that allows the students to simply count and record the coin values. If you have children who find it difficult to do with the 2D image, you may want to have real or plastic coins available for them to manipulate.

The packet was designed to be used in two ways, but because the task cards are open-ended you could certainly use them in other ways as well (such as printing multiple copies for a matching game, labeling the back with I Have / Who Has, etc.)

WHAT IS INCLUDED:

2 sets of 32 coin cards (numbered and plain) that feature actual coin photos - I prefer to use the numbered cards as it makes it easier to keep track of their work.

game directions for the games Dollar Collection and Cutting Coins
