Description

Deck the halls! Jingle all the bells! It’s Christmas time!

What a crazy busy, but always fun holiday.

While all the world is waiting on Santa, we as teachers, do our best to keep the learning going during December. This is the perfect unit to engage students and put learning into action!

My motto is always, “When students Live It, they Learn It, and they will Love It! So, let’s challenge students to become city planners and design a special place, Christmas Town! All the while, they will be learning the design process, measurement, comprehension, maps, and more!

Basic Outline

•Build background knowledge of Christmas towns/cities/villages.

•Introduce concept of a city planner.

•Explore maps and creating maps.

•Learn about unit measurement and area.

•Challenge students to design and build Christmas Town.

•Experience the Design Process.

•Create Christmas Town advertisements.

•Share Christmas Town with others.

•Write reflections about the learning.

•Enrich independent reading with Wonderopolis via a Choice Board.
