What educators are saying

Great resource! It really helped my students practice the skill of writing a CER and the mystery was engaging to them.
My students HATE CERS but had so much fun with this one! I did not have any trouble getting them to engage. They even willingly shared their reasonings with each other!!!! Very clever - thank you.

Description

Writing in science using the CER method helps students understand material better and learn how to support their ideas with evidence. This type of writing is helps students meet NGSS standards which require students to engage in argument from evidence. Students are guided through the CER process with a fun and engaging mystery about Humpty Dumpty. Did Humpty fall or was he pushed?

Lesson includes a bellringer on cell phones designed to help students better define the components of Claim, Evidence and Reasoning. Then the lesson leads students through parts of CER with the Humpty Dumpty mystery. There are printable templates for interactive notebooks and a Google Slides version for digital access to the presentation. This lesson includes everything you need to teach students about Claim, Evidence and Reasoning writing.
