What educators are saying

Close reading is a valuable skill. These reading passages worked well for camp week when some of our students are in school and some are in camp. I appreciated the multiple options of reading passages.

Description

These three high-interest passages focus on camping history, equipment, and famous places. They're perfect for camping week, before camping season, or as a summer reading activity. Help students learn how to support their thinking with evidence from the text with these three nonfiction texts perfectly designed for close reading. They are dual-level and contain standard-based and text-based questions. Also included are teacher guide, annotation bookmarks, a close reading poster, and handouts. This close-reading set is also available digitally in Google Slides.

These passages were created to help learners master their close reading skills. The texts are perfect to use for practicing close reading skills during guided reading, small groups, centers, or read-alouds.

Each passage is written at 2 different levels, so you are able to differentiate more easily. However, the content and questions of the two passages are the same. This allows you to provide students with the same questions and activity sheets, while allowing them to experience close reading skills at their own reading level.

Here are the titles included:

  • Curious about Camping? - Non-fiction text about the history of camping, different types of camping, and several amazing facts about it.
  • Camping Must-Haves - Non-fiction text about some of the most important things one should pack when going camping.
  • Famous Camping Places - Non-fiction text about three amazing places to camp in the United States.

Each Close Reading Activity includes:

- Close Reading Poster (color and black&white);
