    Description

In this a bundle of three separate power point presentations on The Middle Ages: Life in a Medieval Monastery, The Middle Ages: Life in Medieval Towns and The Middle Ages - Life of the Peasants that occurred during the Middle Ages. The combined presentation includes 52 slides that are highly animated and editable so you can modify the slides if you need to.

The Medieval monastery was established during the Middle Ages and served as the primary residence of the Monks. A Medieval monastery was a farm, an inn, a hospital, a school and a library. The uses of the monastery included the following: received pilgrims and travelers, at a period when western Europe was almost destitute of inns, performed many works of charity, feeding the hungry, healing the sick who were brought to their doors, and distributing their medicines, provided education for boys who wished to become priests and those who intended to lead active lives in the world, copied the manuscripts of classical authors preserving valuable books that would otherwise have been lost, and kept records of the most striking events of their time and acted as chroniclers of the medieval history of the Middle Ages.

By the 12th century, towns were growing up around castles and monasteries and along trade routes. These towns became centers of trade and industry. Most towns were surrounded by high walls so everyone entered through a gate in the walls. Colorful signs advertised the merchant wares, since few could read or write. Streets were unpaved, narrow and dark. Animal waste and garbage lined the streets and canals. The towns stunk!

At the lowest level of feudal society were the peasants, also called serfs. The lord offered his peasants protection in exchange for living and working on his land. Peasants worked hard to cultivate the land and produce the goods that the lord and his manor needed. They were heavily taxed and were required to relinquish much of what they harvested.
