What educators are saying

Love this resource! Such an engaging and fun way to learn about habitats. There are different options and I love how all the resources for each habitat are in there.
I used this last school year when teaching habitats, and I will definitely use it again this year! I love that this resource provides paper for the kids to write facts that I have them research, and then create the diorama to go with it.

Description

These animals habitat dioramas are a great way to combine NGSS standards with writing. Your students will love researching and getting to design and create their own habitat diorama.

This resource includes 6 easy-prep projects:

  • grassland
  • wetland
  • desert
  • rainforest
  • ocean
  • arctic

Each habitat includes a variety of writing templates to allow students to display research and newly learned knowledge about their habitat. Students can choose a procedural writing to explain how they built their habitat, informative writing to give facts about their habitat, or a persuasive piece to persuade someone to visit the habitat.

You can have students research a habitat of choice or turn this resource into a multi-week unit for researching and creating habitats. After students have completed one of these habitat projects, they can also make a great addition to writing centers.

PLEASE NOTE: It is recommended that habitat diorama pages be printed on cardstock, construction paper or backed with cardboard/a shoebox for stability. Students can cut down any of the pieces needed to assemble their rooms to their liking.

Students will need grade level appropriate fine motor/scissor skills for this activity. They will also need an appropriate amount of time to complete this activity, as it is an art project and writing research project combined.
