What educators are saying

This has to be one of my favorite activities so far. The students were so engaged and the final product was perfect for review. Highly recommend this product.
What a great alternative to me lecturing about the parts of a long bone. This was an engaging activity and I liked the layered approach.

Description

Teaching long bone anatomy can be so monotonous! Spice up your skeletal system unit! In this resource, your high-school students will make the most of 1 day of class time to:

  • Read the 3-page, easy-to-follow, information-packed instructions while...
  • Taking notes on their 2-page DETAILED fill-in-the-blank notes sheet while...
  • Building a long bone!

I don't think learning gets more active than that! I also included a helpful teacher instruction page to guide you through gathering supplies and how to print each portion of the lesson. All you need to do is print and gather simple classroom supplies (highlighters, colored pencils, tape, scissors, and string or yarn). The resource is fully prepped beyond that!

This lesson really helps my students visualize a long bone. I used to think that lecture was an effective lesson to teach the anatomy of a long bone until I developed this. My students leave this lesson with a deep understanding of where each structure is and what each structure does.

Included with this resource you will receive:

  • Teacher instructions
  • Build-A-Bone 3-page student instructions (includes information on each structure of a long bone and instructions)
  • Anatomy of a Long Bone Notes (2 pages of fill-in-the-blank notes that correspond to the reading) - includes editable version
  • Anatomy of a Long Bone Notes KEY
  • Build-A-Bone Pictures (4-page template for creating the bone)
  • Build-A-Bone Key (provide this to students who may need extra help assembling their bone)
  • Digital versions of the instructions and student notes
