What educators are saying

This was a great resource, especially the project. I used the project as a final for my consumer econ class.
I have used several of CKMath's resources and LOVE each of them! My senior students loved this Budget Unit. They were authentically engaged throughout and had lots of fun.

    Description

These six personal finance budgeting resources will teach your students everything they need to know about budgeting and money management as they become young adults. Topics include wants vs. needs, 50/30/20 budgeting, comparing budgeting methods, using a spending log, writing checks, and more!

Your students will learn how to live within their means and research the actual costs of expenses they will have as adults.

Keep students engaged with a variety of lessons and activities, including Google Slides presentations, guided notes, station activities, task cards, independent research activities, and a real-world financial literacy simulation project! Also includes a quiz to assess students' knowledge at the end of the unit.

All lessons are easy prep and include everything you need except for making copies! Click the 'Preview' button to view samples and more detailed descriptions of each resource.

    This bundle includes:

    • Intro to Budgeting - This personal finance budgeting lesson includes Google Slides, a guided notes worksheet, and 10 station activities with a recording worksheet. Students will be introduced to the basic concepts of budgeting and will learn to use a 50/30/20 budget strategy.
    • Comparing Budgeting Strategies Activity - Teach students about various budgeting strategies with this easy prep personal finance budget activity! Students will independently research 'pay yourself first', zero-based, envelope, and 50/30/20 budgets, then record their findings in a table.
    • Managing Your Money - This financial literacy lesson teaches students basic money management skills, including using a spending log (similar to a check register), paying bills, and writing checks! Includes Google Slides, guided notes, and a spending log task card activity.
    • Planning a Dream Vacation on a Budget Activity (Both PDF and Google Sheets Versions Included) - This fun financial literacy and real-world math project will give students practice with decision-making skills using a budget. Students will plan a vacation to a destination of their choice while keeping costs under a set budget.
    • Grocery Shopping on a Budget Activity (Both PDF and Google Sheets Versions Included) - This financial literacy budgeting activity will provide students with practical experience in creating meal plans and grocery lists on a budget. Students are asked to create five days of meal plans plus snacks and a shopping list on a budget.
    • Creating a Budget Project - This fun personal finance budget project teaches students to budget their income for their needs, wants, and savings for their future. They'll draw cards to determine their family, career, and income, then research the actual costs of apartments, car payments, eating out, and more. This project includes an eight-page student packet that will walk students through setting up the budget step by step. They'll learn to research the cost of an apartment in your area, actual monthly payments on a car loan, the cost of eating out at their favorite full-service and fast-food restaurants, and more!
    • BONUS FILE - Budgeting Quiz - This quiz can be used after completing each of the five activities to assess students' knowledge. A paper version and a Google Forms version are both included. Answer key and Bundle Pacing Guide are also included in the Bonus File.
