What educators are saying

I used this as a part of my A and P curriculum during our nervous system unit. A really great activity if you need a lab that is self contained and only takes a single day. Making the two-point apparatus does take some time; but I will be using them for years to come.

Description

Looking for a FUN, engaging lab that your Anatomy or Psychology students will love? This lab is can be given in an Anatomy class at any time during the Nervous System Unit to teach about brain mapping, or in a Psychology class to teach about the Motor & Sensory Cerebral Cortex and the Sensory Homunculus. It is really is such a fun and simple lab that it can be given at any time during the year because it does not require any background knowledge!

In this Lab, students will...

  • Read the info on the Class Set to gain background knowledge on the cerebral cortex, sensory & motor functions, and the Sensory Homunculus.
  • Answer reading comprehension questions based on the info in the Class Set
  • Conduct the lab with a partner, testing their sensory reception using 2-Point Discrimination Testing
  • Enter their data into website to create their own Homunculus

Note: The ONLY prep that this lab requires is to make the 2-Point Discrimination Tool to test for touch sensitivity. Detailed directions are explained in the Teacher Tips.
