Description

Playing games in the German classroom is fun and excellent conversational practice, but most students tend to fall back into their native language while playing. The first bookmark in this document lists imortant game vocabulary: general phrases ("Your turn!"), words for card and board games ("dice"), and terms specific to battleship ("sunk!"), UNO (names of cards), Scrabble ("tile"), and chess ("knight"). Students can use the bookmark while playing to be able to look up important words.
The document also provides ideas for using and adapting games for the German classroom as well as suggestions for obtaining games, including some board and card games that are well known in Germany, but not in the U.S.
The second bookmark lists time words (months, seasons, days of the week) as well as how to tell time (with examples of different possibilities) and ask what time it is. It also includes time words (today, yesterday, etc.) and is useful as a study aid and quick reference tool.
Both bookmarks are provided in a full-color and a grayscale version to accommodate your printing needs.
