What educators are saying

We really enjoyed this resource and will use it again next year. It was thorough and provided a way for quick feedback to students.
My students have loved the graphics used in this resource as they have begun their novel studies for the quarter.

Description

Need some SHORT, QUICK assignments for your class novel or literature circles? This novel study companion consists of 48 versatile, printable worksheets and graphic organizers.

Assign only what your students need. Just print and go - you’re instantly ready for class!

Students will learn about:

  • characterization
  • character traits
  • story elements
  • themes
  • much more

This unit is perfect for an independent study, a whole-class novel, or to use during Literature Circles (Reading Circles).

This resource was created when I noticed some of my students were entirely overwhelmed by traditional novel companions. There were just too many questions and too much writing for them, even with accommodations.

My students needed something different. It needed to be rigorous but not overwhelming.

You receive 48 pages of worksheet printables with open-ended, thought-provoking questions and engaging activities that work with ANY novel. Students will think more deeply about the book or story and show their understanding in fun and creative ways.

How I’ve used these pages in my classroom:

  • I’ve used this resource as a traditional novel study guide/companion with my students.

  • I made a booklet for each student by choosing the pages, copying them back-to-back, then stapling them together. Students worked individually, with partners, in groups, or in literature circles, depending on the goal.

ONE FINAL NOTE:

This resource has been developed with inclusive terminology concerning characters and gender. You’ll notice this resource uses the gender-neutral pronoun they. The Oxford Dictionary, APA (American Psychological Association), and Merriam-Webster now endorse the use of the pronouns they and them for a singular person/character. So, you’ll notice this resource uses character pronouns such as they and their as singular pronouns.
