Description

No more "I don't know what to read!" Just tell students to visit the Google Slides database their classmates have created with their favorite books from the year. They can even sort by the genres they like the best.

Students will work together in one Google Slides presentation to create a collection of their favorite books from the year. They'll customize a slide each time they want to recommend a book with this easy-to-use template.

How do students create their book review?

  1. Students create a book review for a book the recommend.
  2. They customize one of the review templates with their selfie, cover of the book, book details, a snapshot of the book, fun hashtag, and why someone will love it.
  3. Students add an image of the book to the Favorites Library and link it to their review slide.
  4. Students move their review slide in the presentation so it falls under the correct genre divider slide.

You can use both the Favorites Library and Genre Slides or delete either of them. It's up to you!

How can students use this to find a recommended book?

  • Students can click on book covers in the Favorites Library that look interesting and it'll take them to the review
  • Students can click on a genre on the Genre's Menu slide and it'll take them to the book reviews that fall under that genre

What if my students don't know how to add images from Google or add links?

No prob! I've created super simple student directions at the beginning of the presentation as well as on every slide in the margins.

Can I edit this activity?

Yes! I created this activity so you have maximum freedom to customize the slides exactly how you want them. (Most resources on TpT on not like this)

  • All of the text is 100% editable. Just click and type!
  • The formatting is 100% editable.
  • You can edit the genre slides, add images, or delete them if you don't teach genres
  • There's 8 other ideas I include for using this presentation
  • I purposely did not lock down the elements on the slides so you and your students have the freedom to make the presentation their own.

How else can I use this activity?

  • Mix up your book reports. Use it as a month’s book report project.
  • At any time, print a few student slides and display them on top of a bookshelf with the real book next to it.
  • Customize and print the genre slides as classroom posters and hang them up around your room. Print out book covers of books you’ve read in class and glue them onto the posters throughout the year.
  • Use as a one-time activity during the year. Students recommend a book that they’ve recently read and would recommend. Print the slides for a bulletin board or have students go through and comment on their friends’ slides using the comment button.
  • Give each student their own presentation to record their favorite books during the entire year. Every slide is theirs.
  • Use the presentation to record teacher read-alouds during the year. After a read aloud, talk about the genre and have one student who enjoyed the book create the student slide, giving a short summary and who they would recommend it to. Share the recommendations with another class.
  • Use the presentation to highlight different books each month.
  • Send a copy to parents at the end of the year so they can help their child pick summer reading books!
  • Share it with next year's students as you preview your classroom library.

Who is this activity good for?

It's great for students and teachers who are just starting to use Google Slides and also those already Google Slides savvy. Share this activity through Google Classroom or simply share the link.
