What educators are saying

This resource has helpful to lead discussions with some of the quieter students during book club. Thank you!
This is good to have on hand for the teacher and also a good resource to copy and give to book clubs so they can keep discussing the book after the focus question.

Description

Let's make literature circles and book clubs easier! Download these 25 printable question strips to use with ANY chapter book. Whether you're a librarian or a classroom teacher, these prompts will get your students thinking deeply about the books they are reading--no matter which book you choose!

These questions will spark discussions in your book club or literature circles, they will prompt writing in journals, and they will show the level at which your students are comprehending the book they are reading.

Print the question strips, cut them apart, and let students choose which one they'll respond to. There are no right or wrong answers. Your students will have to think and understand the book to be able to answer these questions.

I introduce these in large group, so we can talk together about what a thoughtful, complete answer sounds like. Then we move to think-pair-share, to give every student the opportunity to respond. Then we can break into literature circles and discuss different books, with everyone trained in responding to the discussion questions.

Just print, cut apart, and discuss! An easy, peasy way to get thoughtful reading responses for any chapter book! I've used these with book clubs and literature circles in my elementary school library for the past several years with lively reading discussions.
