Description
Don't have computer access, but want to teach your students about collaborating, discussing, and publishing 'online'? These 'Blog' Templates allow all students to share their thoughts in a unique way.
Using Blog Templates will guarantee total participation in your classroom - even shy students love this!
For their 'blog,' students generate their own blog title (___.com), give each entry a title and date, and generate key words that would highlight the importance of their blog entries. There are half page and full page blog entry options.
Included: 3 different template options
* single blog entry - 1 student entry per page
* half-page blog entries - 2 student entries per page
* interactive blog entry - space for student entry + 2 responses
CURRENT EVENTS:
This series of Blog Templates is perfect for your Current Events unit in Social Studies. I have my students read an article or watch CNN Student News www.cnn.com/studentnews , then 'blog' about their feelings on the topic. Next, I have students rotate their 'blog' papers with other students in the classroom. These students can now read the previous student's thoughts, then respond in the boxes below. This initiates an actual discussion about the topic and simulates an online collaborative discussion. ELL students, shy students, students with special needs all can participate at their own pace/level through writing.
CREATIVE WRITING:
Another way to use these Blog Templates is for a daily warm-up, during creative writing time, or for a content area performance assessment. Students can also develop an ongoing blog about a topic of interest.
CROSS-CURRICULAR / ROLE PLAY
I have enjoyed using this with my students for cross-curricular activities as well - they can 'role play' in Science, Social Studies, and Math, and use their blog entries to take on new perspectives. Imagine what a WWI soldier would write in his blog, if he had one. What would President Lincoln say? Use your blog to share your PHEOC (problem, hypothesis, experiment, observations, conclusions) results from today's science experiment. Write a blog entry to teach your followers about sequencing integers. The possibilities are endless!
