Description

This Black History Month African American Scientists and Inventors Project uses Chat GPT to discover the amazing contributions of Black scientists and inventors with this engaging and collaborative hexagonal thinking activity! Students use ChatGPT to research the lives, contributions, and character traits of diverse scientists and inventors. This is the perfect Black History Month project for secondary science classes! Also... great for Black History Month Bulletin Boards and Science Sub Plans. This resource also includes a non-Chat GPT option as well.

Looking for something more traditional, without the use of ChatGPT? This resource is also available with Black Scientists Reading Passages.

What is a Hexagonal Thinking Activity?

Hexagonal thinking is an immersive, kinesthetic strategy designed to deepen understanding through the exploration of interconnected concepts. Each student is a given hexagon-shaped card, with each facet asking a question related to the overarching topic: Black Scientists and Inventors. After researching the answers to the questions using ChatGPT, they will form groups with other students. Then, they will align their hexagons by finding similarities between their scientists. As they align their hexagons, they're not just placing cards next to each other; they’re building a visual matrix that showcases the interwoven stories and achievements of these remarkable African American scientists and inventors.

This approach not only fosters deep comprehension but also hones critical reasoning skills, encourages rich collaborative discussions, and is adaptable across a multitude of subjects. Using Hexagonal Thinking Activities offers students a dynamic way to see, process, and interconnect essential concepts, transforming individual ideas into a grand interconnected matrix.

Product Highlights:

  • Hexagonal Worksheet Templates: Students extract information about their assigned Black scientist, jotting down details in appropriate sections of the hexagon.

  • Collaborative Exploration: Encourage students to come together, find connections, and assemble their hexagons to create an interconnected matrix. It's a visual testament to the profound impact of African American scientists on global innovation.

  • Versatile Use: Perfect for classroom activities, bulletin board displays, substitute plans, and even extra credit opportunities.

What's Included:

  • Printable hexagonal worksheet templates.
  • Printable photos of each Black Scientist, designed to fit in the center of the hexagon worksheet. (Color and Black and White Versions)
  • Detailed instructions for teachers.
  • Black Scientists Fact-Checking ChatGPT Checklist for students to reference their fact-checking sources

Benefits:

  • Enhance Critical Thinking: Challenge students to evaluate information about Black scientists, refining their critical thinking skills.
  • Boost Cultural Awareness: Showcase the pivotal roles played by Black scientists, fostering appreciation and cultural understanding.
