Black History Month: Celebrating the Contributions of Afro-Latinos
- Word Document File
Description
Many believe Black culture and Latino culture are truly separate; however, there are many intersections of Blackness and Latinidad. The impact that Afro-Latinos have on both Black and Latino/a history is inexhaustible. Not only have Afro-Latinos made great contributions to history, they have also adopted fundamental roles within both Black and Latino cultures.
Students will be assigned an influential Afro-Latino/a that has made significant contributions to the United States, and/or the world in history, culture, arts, politics and any other relevant field. Students will use the included guiding questions to write a biography of the person's life and create and create a commemorative stamp that will help students understand why the African diaspora matters in Latin America and in the U.S. Latino populations.
This also includes a list of 30+ notable Afro-Latinos, the biography requirements in detail (i.e. formatting, title page, citation, analysis, etc.), plagarism statement and Criteria for Evaluating a Book Summary for teachers.
