Description

The Blackout Poetry Project will allow your students to uncover important figures in African American history and bring them to the forefront of the historical and cultural narrative. Students will examine the idea behind Black History Month and also fulfill the vision of Carter G. Woodson by selecting a significant figure to feature in an original piece of creative writing and illustration. This activity couples the celebration of African American history as well as students' interests and passions. It also incorporates skills like creative writing, word choice, and visual arts.
