What educators are saying

My students used this as an assessment activity on our bio me unit. They enjoyed the hands on aspect.

Description

One aspect of differentiating instruction is allowing students to make choices in their learning. Students begin by completing a short research assignment on eight biomes. Then they choose one biome to further research and complete a detailed project. This biome project allows students to have a choice in their project. They are given a choice between eight biomes. (Tropical Rainforest, Desert, Tundra, Taiga, Savanna, Temperate Deciduous Forest, Chaparral, and Alpine) Then they choose one of eight projects. The projects include:

Podcast/video

PowerPoint Presentation

Children’s Book

Diorama

Mobile

Travel Brochure

Movie Poster

Fair Exhibit

There is a detailed description of what is expected for each project. No matter which project the student chooses, they are asked to include a detailed description of the biome 's climate, three plants, and three animals from the biome. A grading sheet or rubric is included for each of the eight choices on the choice board. The rubric and grading sheets are based on the descriptions given in the choice board. There are also some sample pictures of projects.
