Biology NGSS Aligned Year-long Outline

This outline has been edited a couple of times as I have attended workshops and taught the NGSS Biology curriculum. I'm sure I will add to it again as new information and ideas come to light! In this outline, I have given you a sample course outline from which to base your year of teaching on. I actually have used this outline, and feel that it works really well. If you are a new teacher or just new to the NGSS curriculum, I think that this will really help you to not only understand the way the NGSS curriculum is laid out but what they deem as important to learn in high school Biology.

I have added some ideas for analogies (which I use a lot) and I have also indicated when a particular pattern and/or rule of life is being covered. Over the years, I have collected, I guess you could say, a list of about 14 or 15 patterns/rules about life and it is interesting to see that they are all covered in the NGSS curriculum. Also, you will notice that engineering design is an important aspect of the new curriculum.
