What educators are saying

This resource is all I needed for a class frog dissection. It tells them exactly what to do and how. Amazing!!! Great visuals.
I used this with my 8th Graders and they loved it! It was the perfect resource for their first dissection experience.

Description

Frog dissection is, without a doubt, the NUMBER ONE most anticipated and celebrated activity that takes place in my BIOLOGY classroom all year. From the minute students come through the door in September, they want to know. WHEN will we be dissecting frogs? I’ve been dissecting specimens with my students for over 20 years, and it never gets old.

I’ve had ample experience performing dissections myself, leading students through dissections, and teaching other teachers how to be effective in sharing dissections with their own students. Within this product I share my best practices – my secrets to gaining student cooperation, my classroom management ideas, and my knowledge of anatomy and dissection technique.

If you’ve been on the fence about dissecting or not dissecting, keep this in mind: there is no substitute for dissecting a real frog. No iPad app, no online virtual dissection, no cut and paste model can compare to the look and feel of a real dissected specimen. Students will learn about anatomy like never before – with their own specimen to explore with their own eyes and hands. Your students will love dissecting frogs!

In total you get 98 pages full of resources, worksheets, printables, diagrams, photographs, posters, advice and study tools. You will not be disappointed in the quality and the quantity of material this purchase provides. Here’s what’s included:

TEACHERS GUIDE – Twelve pages full of information, suggestions, advice, tips and tricks to make your classroom dissection activity fun, motivating and inspiring. Learn how to select and purchase specimens, how to talk to and motivate reluctant students, how to set up your dissection equipment for efficient use of time, good dissection technique, frog anatomy, and tips on classroom management and safety. Full color photographs show you the way. Teachers guides provided by science supply houses just cannot compare!

STUDENT DIRECTIONS AND WORK PACKET - These eleven pages lead your students through step-by-step observations of frog anatomy including: external structures, inside the frog’s mouth, abdominal cavity, chest cavity. Digestive, respiratory, circulatory, excretory, reproductive systems are covered in detail. Students observe, measure, compare, draw, analyze, and explain.

FULL COLOR PHOTOGRAPHS OF DISSECTION IN PROGRESS - Photgraphs with and without labels for students to use as reference as they perform the dissection or for use in lab practical exams, review, or science lab station work.

LOTS OF WAYS TO INCORPORATE ELA INTO SCIENCE

Frog themed common core and stem activities. Creative writing, graphic organizers, information text about cloning, and vocabulary building are included.

FROG AND HUMAN ANATOMY DIAGRAMS

Students appreciate having human anatomy diagrams and models available for reference when they are working on the frog dissection. Using human systems as comparison stresses the homology of the animals and reinforces the meaning and importance of frog dissection. Human heart and lungs, digestive system, mouth structures, excretory system, and more.

PHOTOGRAPHS AND LINE DRAWINGS OF FROG LIFE CYCLE

Extend your students’ knowledge of the frog’s life cycle, development, and adaptations to life in a freshwater pond.

TEST QUESTIONS, HOMEWORK, CLASS WORKSHEETS

The learning doesn’t end when the lab is over. Multiple choice, short answer constructed response, matching, labeling diagrams, reviewing dissection safety and vocabulary – lots of test prep skills. Complete answer keys included.

PICTURES AND PHOTOS OF FROG PARTS AND DISSECTION TOOLS

More than thirty black line drawings and real photos are provided. Both labeled and unlabeled. So many uses: review, partner games, station work, flashcards.

AND DON’T FORGET SAFETY!

Helpful signs remind your students of appropriate classroom behavior and personal responsibility for their own well being and the safety of their classmates.
