What educators are saying

This is a great resource to review concepts. I have used this when I needed to be out and students had a substitute. It was a great way for them to be productive while I was gone, plus I LOVED that it auto-graded!

Description

Reinforce or introduce atoms, molecules, and subatomic particles with this SELF-GRADING digital video guide! I’ve learned over the years that Bill Nye can be a fantastic classroom resource, but only if done properly. That challenge is met with this well designed and engaging student video guide.

Since I started using Google Classroom my science class runs so much smoother! This self-grading video guide is a powerful way to make your teacher life much easier!

NO COPIES, NO GRADING! In this download, you get a twenty question, self-grading digital video guide. Lots of graphics throughout the video guide help students stay engaged and on task. The digital video guide is fully editable, so you can add or delete questions to suit your classroom and your students.

NOTE: the video guide can be printed, so you can use this as a traditional worksheet if desired!

Key concepts covered:

  • Matter
  • The concept that atoms cannot be broken down further and retain their properties
  • The nucleus of an atom
  • Protons, neutrons, electrons, and their charges
  • The concept that atoms are mostly empty space
  • The concept that atoms are the basic building block of all matter
  • The concept that atoms combine to form molecules
  • The concept that the number of protons in a nucleus determine an atoms properties
  • How elements are arranged on the periodic table
  • Atomic number
  • The concept that all living things contain carbon atoms

The printable version is perfect for subs or classes that benefit from a traditional pencil and paper experience. This lesson was designed to accompany “Bill Nye the Science Guy: Atoms” (Season 5, Episode 8).

The digital video guide was designed using Google Forms and can be shared with your students via Google Classroom or Google Drive. Once shared, students can take the assessment and you can immediately see their results.

Once students complete the assessment, you have several options.
1. You can see an item analysis of the students' work.
2. You can see individual responses for each of your students.
3. You can also view an excel spreadsheet with all of your students' answers.

If you are new to Google Forms, no problem! Your download includes a link to a video that explains the features of Google Forms and how to customize your form to be perfect for your students!
