Behavior/Vocational Song - I'm Not Done

Music Therapy behavior/vocational song for special needs individuals.
Goal: Client will respond to a supervisor to indicate that they have not completed a job task.

This song is the sequel to Done With My Work.

After my client was successfully initiating a conversation with “I am done with my work, is there something else to do?” I increased the difficulty level of his job tasks. For example, an early task was to put the maracas in my backpack; a later task was to put all of the wooden instruments into my backpack. (This young man possesses the ability to differentiate between wooden, metal, and plastic instruments.) Often, he would partially complete a task and then tell me he was done. He was not done. So, a new song was needed.

I’m Not Done is a much shorter song than Done With My Work. This was intentional, as the desired result is for the client to quickly acknowledge that the task is incomplete and get back to work. Some of the key words from Done With My Work (done & finished) are now used in a negative context in I’m Not Done (not done & not finished). “I still have more work to do” explains what not being done means and “I’ll keep going till the work is through” conveys the appropriate action to take.

I’ve found a particularly effective method in music therapy sessions to help communicate the meanings of these two songs. I’ve given my client a job task, played I’m Not Done on a loop until he is done, and then switched to the recording of Done With My Work. These musical cues have been increasing his accuracy at responding to the question: “Are you done with your work?”
