What educators are saying

This was perfect for our Paraprofessional beginning of the year training. I was able to fit it to our specific needs. Thank you!

Description

Training paraprofessionals at the beginning of the year has never been so easy! This 18-slide EDITABLE Powerpoint presentation + Training Acknowledgment Form has all of the basics covered. Customize it to fit your needs and get your year with your team started off strong!

Note: My personal version has been "fancied" up with specially downloaded fonts. The uploaded version displayed here includes basic fonts so that the document could maintain its editable format. It looks all-the-better when you spend a few minutes making it beautiful and I've received compliments from colleagues about the presentation when I've presented it myself!

Topics covered in the slideshow include:

*Easy, not-awkward ice-breaker questions to help new members on staff begin to feel welcomed

*Para Roles: You are...

*Para Roles: You are not...

*Expanded information about EACH are/are not bullet in the slides that follow, including information on: paraprofessional roles as assistants and what that means, communicating about student needs and personal absences with supervising teachers, professional workplace expectations including language and dress, mandatory reporting, being a team player and the importance of bringing a positive attitude to the workplace, the do's and don'ts of supporting students in the classroom, and more!

*The importance of following your daily schedule

*Confidentiality warnings

*The all-important cell-phone policy as well as guidelines about photographing students

*"Student Treatment - Where's the Love?" - A warning about not becoming overly affectionate or motherly to your assigned students.

*The Powerpoint ends with a pep-talk on the final slide about the importance of seeing the best in our students. We lead the way for others to work with and enjoy working with students with disabilities as much as we do!

A document has been included at the end of the presentation for your paraprofessionals to fill out and sign, indicating that they have participated in your training and that they plan to meet expectations. If filed and saved, this form is helpful, should individual staff members break code of conduct, as it proves that they have received proper training and that they agreed to abide by your code of conduct. The form is editable, but otherwise ready to print on official school letterhead. Right click to open in a Word Document.
