Beginning Addition for Kindergarten

Easy sentences for introducing addition. These adding pages introduce the joining concept with the sentence frame ___ and ___ is ___ as well as the reverse version ___ is ___ and ___. There is a section for addition within numbers to 5 and a section of pages for addition within numbers to 12 or 15.

This approach serves as the first step to introducing "joining groups" or the "decomposing numbers" concept. All pages feature the sight words "and" & "is" in a number sentence to practice addition.

Please note: the symbols (+) plus and (=) equals are NOT used anywhere in this pack. I use this approach to teaching addition because it pays off big time in the long run! An ideal strategy for preschool and transitional kindergarten as well.

This beginning stage is so important for kindergarten students to master in order to transition students to eventually mastering the more difficult symbols (+) plus and (=) equals.
