There are 4 lesson plans included in this unit - the lesson plan includes detailed instructions, materials lists, and flashcards.

Lesson 1: Life Cycle of a bee

  • Students will learn about the 4 different stages of a bee’s life.
  • Experiment: Students will create their own life cycle wheel.

Lesson 2: The Anatomy of a bee

  • Learn about the different parts of the bee and the different types of bees in the hive.
  • Experiment: Student make their own bee with bristled legs (to be used in lesson 4’s experiment)

Lesson 3: The science of a beehive

  • Learn how bees make their beehive and what shape is the most ideal for a honeycomb.
  • Mini Experiment: Molding candle wax into a shape
  • Experiment: The best shape of a honeycomb for a beehive.

Lesson 4: Pollination

  • Learn about the importance of pollination and why bees are engendered.
  • Experiment: Students make their own flowers with pollen– use the bees from lesson 2 to fly around and to different flowers to learn about pollination.
