So, how do you use this?
In our classroom, we have enjoyed using the Bee-Bot mats for sight words, primarily. I create sight word Bee-Bot mats by typing in their current sight words in the blank squares. I tend to make squares that are 5x5 grids for my students, but you can make any size mats. After I have the squares with sight words in them cut out, I glue them down to bulletin board paper and laminate. Then, I use their sight word cards as the playing cards. Kids flip a card, read the sight word, and then program their Bee-Bot to reach the sight word. Optional: You could have a start box or you could have the kids start off the grid and program from sight word to sight word.
Another way we have begun using Bee-Bots is for math fact fluency. I made a variety of math mats. In the grids, I put numbers that could be utilized as answers for addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division - that way I don't need different mats for the different operations. This works for me, but you can have specific mats for specific operations, too. I just use some flash cards as the cards kids flip over. When they answer the math fact correctly, they program the Bee-Bot to reach the answer.
