Description

*I created these to use in PE class as a visual for students, however they are perfect for distance learning.

Just email the powerpoint to your students, or upload it to your Google Classroom and have them follow along to the difficulty level that you think is best for each grade level.

If you need students to turn something in, check out the Basketball Tricks Checklist and the Create Your Own Ball Handling Routine which are also included in this download

------

This is a great visual resource that you can use during your Basketball Unit to help students learn or review ball handling tricks.

Please check out the preview document for a link to a detailed video walkthrough if you have any questions about what's included.

There are 3 main resources in this pack:

  • Warm Up Video going through all of the tricks
    • Each video will take students through a 5 minute warm up where they try to follow along to each trick/skill for 30 seconds.  These videos are more structured and focused as it only displays one trick at a time and has helpful commentary on the cues and skills.  I normally use this during week 1 to introduce the skills to students for the first time.
    • There are 3 Different Videos for Different Difficulty Levels
      • You can use whichever you feel is appropriate, but personally I like to break it down with the categories below:
        • Basic: K-1st  → Intermediate: 2nd - 3rd  → Advanced: 4th - 5th

  • Powerpoint File of Animated GIFs
    • There is a slide with each trick so you can progress as you teach students each trick and have them displayed on the screen for students to review while learning the trick
    • There is also a “summary slide” section at the end with all the tricks on just a few slides that you can use as an easy way to review multiple tricks if you’d like.

  • Animated GIF Looping Video (loops the tricks for 5 minutes)
    • This is a video loop of the "Summary Slides" with
    • After teaching the tricks to students, I use this as a review tool.  I simply let it play on my TV and allow students to have 5 minutes to work on the tricks of their choice - it’s really nice because it will loop through all the tricks so students can just go up and wait on the trick they are working on to pop up.

  • Printable Worksheet Assignments
    • Basketball Tricks Checklist - If you want to have a piece of work to send home or show student progress use the printable checklist provided, there is a self assess version and a partner assess version.
    • Create Your Own Routine - Have your students create their own ball handling routine (Think Harlem Globetrotters) and turn in their plan to you. You can even make it a big deal and have students perform for the class if you'd like.

I’ve found this resource to be an extremely useful tool, it saves me time by allowing me to give feedback to students or get one-on-one with kids instead of constantly leading the class (which is what I did for the first 8 years that I taught, before I got a screen in my gym)

Please note that this is a separate resource from our Basketball Unit Resource Pack, but they can be purchased together with the bundle deal below:

Hope you love it!
