What educators are saying

This interactive bulletin board was a great addition to a school-wide book week reading cafe; students were so engaged and the discussions that came out of the reveals? Priceless!
Great resource when working with censorship and book banning! Saves a lot of time and will definitely use again.

Description

Celebrate Banned Books Week with these eye-catching displays, presentation, and project! Students are always shocked to see their favorite books and learn about the reasons why they were challenged. This is a great activity for banned books week, to introduce a book that has been banned or challenged, to discuss censorship, and/or to discuss the freedom to choose and freedom to read.

This bundle includes an interactive bulletin board display that students or patrons must lift up to reveal the challenged or banned book AND caution labels with the reasons the book was banned or challenged that can be wrapped around the books (or a picture of the cover of a book). NEW - ALSO INCLUDES a digital presentation and student project activity that can be shared online on a secured platform! This is perfect for a distance learning project-based activity!

This zipped download includes:

• caution labels for over 140 books

• an interactive bulletin board display with over 180 books that can be used anywhere

editable templates so you can add your own warning to the labels & display

• an activity on how to introduce the books

• discussion prompts for talking about the dangers of censorship and book banning

121 slide presentation (Google Slides) and mini-research project (also sold separately, here: Banned Books Presentation & Project Distance Learning)

I give clear directions and tips on how to display the books and labels with images from my own classroom.

Don't have the books? No problem! There are instructions to use these with a picture of the book cover for a two-dimensional display (bulletin boards, walls, lockers, windows), as well.

**Appropriate for grades 8 and up, including high school and college. Material not suitable for younger students. (Please use your own discretion.)**
