What educators are saying

My class loved this project so much! I love how many papers are included and the examples that are provided.

Description

This Thanksgiving Day Parade-themed project-based learning activity is the best seasonal activity for November! Use with the Balloons Over Broadway + our included text. In this fun project-based learning (PBL) activity for Kindergarten-1st grades, your students will use key standards in a real-life scenario! These standards include reading comprehension, collaboration, revision, and design. Differentiation and student choice is included!

Driving Question: How can I make a balloon for our classroom’s Thanksgiving Day Parade?

Students are challenged with creating a Thanksgiving Day Parade balloon so the project is open to accommodate all student beliefs and interests.

An informational read-aloud, The Balloons of the Thanksgiving Day Parade, is included in this unit. I recommend also getting a copy of Balloons Over Broadway by Melissa Sweet to use as a paired text with this unit. Reading comprehension questions are provided for both texts.

Standards Covered:

  • Comparing Multiple Texts
  • Research
  • Main Idea & Key Details
  • Explanatory Writing: How-to Flip Book
  • Reading Comprehension

Banish worksheets and get your students excited about real life learning! This 7-Day project covers the following skills:

  • Research
  • Reading Comprehension
  • Collaboration
  • Communication
  • Explanatory Planning & Writing
  • Design & Creativity
  • Critical Thinking
