What educators are saying

I love this strategy to support my struggling readers, they are finally not confusing b and d as often!
These are so helpful in the classroom! I love the use of "c the d" instead of the donut or drum and drumstick. It becomes helpful for handwriting as well! Thank you!

Description

FINALLY the "B and D" reversal strategy that WORKS! There are all kinds of fun ways to decide which was a b and d go when we write them. Some popular ones are, d has a diaper and b has a belly, but those could easily be reversed depending on the direction the student sees the stick of the letter "facing" *big no no for dyslexic and dysgraphic kids!) The drum and stick, bat and ball (or was it ball and bat? See?! It can be tricky for kids to remember!) The holding your thumbs up trick is not always reliable because that depends on the left/right handed orientation of the child and its incredibly hard for dyslexic and dysgraphic students to put the pencil down put their thumbs up, remember which one is first in the alphabet and then transfer that onto paper. If you have ever worked with students that struggle like this you will know how hard it can be.

So bat BEFORE ball is easier to map in the brain because all three sounds start with b and when they say it over and over a few times, it sticks forever! And for the d, its "C the D", because most students learn c as one of the first consonants and its a crucial letter because it helps you form 7 different letters in the alphabet! a, c, d, g, q, e, and the top of s.

I have lots of other spelling/phonics tricks, tips and sayings in my TPT store! CHECK OUT THE BUNDLE! I also sell a lot of Orton Gillingham aligned digital lessons/drills and blending boards for one on one and GREAT for whole group instruction in the classroom! www.teacherspayteachers.com/store/phun-with-phonics
