What educators are saying

This was a great way to review and start the year! It was a great way for students to introduce themselves and/or get reacquainted with one another.
We had so much fun reviewing our rhythms & getting to know one another! What a great way to do both! Thanks for all your wonderful products!

    Description

Not sure what to do in the first week of school? This Back to School bundle includes some of my favorite activities for the first week of school. Whether you're looking for a rhythm review game or you need name games to build relationships with your students, these are the activities that will get you through the first week of school.

    Includes:

Back to school manipulatives: These composition cards are a great way to practice rhythm (with or without notation), composing, reading, and even start with centers.

Back to School Rhythm Write the Room: Review rhythm with a scavenger hunt! Hide cards around the room and have students copy them or play them on instruments.

Back to School Solfege Write the Room: Review solfege in the same way. Practice identifying notes on the staff or writing the notes on the treble clef staff.

Music Icebreakers: Start class with a quick question to help get to know your students! They can write answers, raise their hands, or get into groups to show their answers.

Asteroid!: Use this active rhythm game to review rhythms. Students walk to the rhythm of the cards until there is an asteroid-- then they get back to their home base ASAP!

Shark Attack!: Read the rhythms to collect the cards. Watch out for things that mess you up-- like the piranha or the shark attack, which makes you put your cards back. Most cards wins!

Name games: Elementary music teachers need to learn names! Use this name game set to practice names in a fun way.

Agua de limones: This singing game is so fun, and perfect for back to school. Students sing the song, then the teacher calls out a category (or use the premade ones in the slides). Students group themselves by favorite color, number of pets, and more. Perfect for a getting to know you activity. (Use with 2-3 grade)

Extra Beat Take a Seat: This is a go to game for back to school for the older kids. Students perform a short rhythm 3 times, then 5 times, then 7, and so on. But if they make an extra beat (not counting), they are out. I've used with 2-5, but I typically save it for 4-5.

Stick figure posters: This low-stress movement option is perfect for anyone in your classroom. Hold up a card, and students match the stick figure. After 4 beats, switch to a new one. You can add music, add a make your own card, and more! I use with 3-5.

Stand Up Sit Down: This is a simple getting to know you activity, which is a twist on this or that-- and gets the wiggles out!
