What educators are saying

Kiddos really enjoyed this resource in the beginning of the year, I will definitely be using again next! Thanks!
This was a great activity to do with my students during the first week of school! We loved looking back on it throughout the rest of the year.

Description

Are you looking for an engaging resource to help your new students get to know each other? Are you hoping to find a great back to school writing activity to promote working together? Look no further!

WHAT'S INSIDE?

Inside, you'll find a writing template and instructions for completion. The template says “ME,” but when you flip it over, it will read “WE.” Students should be put into partners or groups to try to find things that they have in common. When they find something in common, they should write that on the side that says, “WE.” When they find differences, they should write them on the side that says “ME.”

*New! Students stuck? Not sure where to start? Print the "Let's Get Talking" page as an option for sets of students that may need conversation starters.

PEDAGOGY

Get students writing and talking on the first day of school, already working on those writing production and speaking/listening standards. Tie in other standards if you wish, such as compare/contrast, inferring, and editing.

HOW CAN I USE IT?

  • get-to-know-you activity for the first day or first week of school
  • teaching students to compare and contrast
  • character education about respecting differences

WILL IT WORK FOR ME?

For best results, print the template on cardstock. When they are all done, turn them into a class book! This is a great activity for the first few days of school, or anytime throughout the year.
