Description

A FUN and engaging back to school resource for students and/or staff! Mingle with Metaphors is an editable file containing six engaging activities that can be used as follows: get to know you activities or icebreakers, student mingles on the first few days or weeks of school, back to school mingle nights, get to know each other functions for teachers and/or students, back to school faculty meetings with new teachers, professional development warm-up activity, and/or meet-n-greets. Specifically, the six different Mingle with Metaphors activities are appropriate for Grades 4 and up as well as for staff or adults.

*IMPORTANT Note: Because the content of the files can be edited, the metaphors included in the six activities can be edited to reach kindergarten and Grades 1-3 learners. If used with adult learners, the metaphors can, of course, be edited to reflect adult appropriate content.

This packet Mingle with Metaphors was primarily designed to be used in any class on the first day of school or soon after as the activities facilitate getting to know classmates through metaphors in a way that is fun but at the same time addresses Common Core Standards. There are six activities to choose from to include Mingle with Metaphors Jigsaw Puzzle, Mingle with Metaphors Bingo, Mingle with Metaphors Writing Activities (2), Mingle with Metaphors Line Game, and Mingle with Metaphors Tic-Tac-Toe. All pages are editable and can be used to review other content throughout the year. Remember metaphors are not just for ELA teachers. Connecting content in a metaphor is a researched-based strategy to help students meaningfully transfer concepts and content. If interested, check out the preview for this product.
