Human Impact on the Environment Ocean Pollution Activity for National Clean Up Day

• Teacher Google Slide Ocean Pollution presentation: Use this to have a whole-class discussion with your students about humans' impact on our oceans. (Yes, this can be used with your learning management system - Google Classroom, Schoology, etc. or converted to Microsoft PP for use with Microsoft Teams)
• Four printable worksheets - Students can demonstrate their knowledge of ocean pollution and design a solution to solve one of the human impact problems contributing to creating patches of garbage in the ocean.
• Student Google Slide presentation: Students can use this to follow a class discussion or in small groups to work collaboratively to design a solution for ocean pollution.

This science activity will assist in aligning to NGSS:

• MS-ESS3-3. Apply scientific principles to design a method for monitoring and minimizing a human impact on the environment.
• 5-ESS3-1. Obtain and combine information about ways individual communities use science ideas to protect the Earth'sresources and environment.
• MS-ESS1-1. Develop and use a model of the Earth-sun-moon system to describe the cyclic patterns of seasons.
• 3-5-ETS1-1. Define a simple design problem reflecting a need or a want that includes specified criteria for success and constraints on materials, time, or cost.
