Description
All supplemental resources for weeks 1-5 of the successful vocabulary program Word Within the Word in 3 formats -- PDF, Google Slides, and EASEL!
Genuine vocabulary instruction for every student. Word Within the Word Vocabulary Activities are built on the instruction of Greek and Latin word parts. The weekly lists of 5 word parts are pulled directly from the Word Within the Word program and are designed to be cumulative. I developed these weekly homework activities as supplemental resources to use with my middle school students.
Meaningful vocabulary instruction for every student!
Each week's activity is designed so students can practice their knowledge of stems throughout the week. Learning word parts engenders word confidence for all students. Understanding definitions is just the beginning. Meaningful vocabulary instruction requires students to deftly use words, recognize them in text, and encounter them repeatedly, all of which eventually lead to a nuanced understanding. These weekly activities help build student understanding and offer meaningful practice.
Each week, the teacher adds five more stems, using the Word Within a Word Vocabulary program. The program is cumulative, meaning students are tested (at your discretion) on all the stems they have learned so far.
Activities in this assignment include:
- Sentences using stem words
- Synonyms
- Analogies
- Matching Definitions
- Word Maps ... AND MORE!
For each section of the homework, there is a completed example for your reference. Students find these a fun and engaging way to utilize their knowledge of stems. Stems are basically word parts that students use to break down and figure out the meaning of a unfamiliar words. Each week after completing the homework, students complete a cumulative quiz.
