MORE INFO ON THE SELF-INTRODUCTION SHEETS:
The two self-introduction sheets were designed to be used in tandem, but I will use them and suggest their use as follows:
- The colorful graphic organizer for middle school students, including ESL/EFL/EAL learners--there are vibrant colorful cues and an Easel form to use to assist younger learners or those less familiar with English to grasp the meaning of questions! The questions are basic and easy to answer with only a bit of explanation needed.
- The Cornell Notes Self-Introduction sheet for upper high-school students with high levels of English fluency and an eye towards university and career.
- I'll use them both with my high-level 9th & 10th grade English classes this year. I'll need to explain the meaning of the words "siblings" and some of the more in-depth questions.

INCLUDED IN THE COLORFUL GRAPHIC ORGANIZER "GETTING TO KNOW YOU" SHEET:
Get to Know Your Students from Day One!
This sheet provides insight on your students that you can use in any class. Since I started teaching in 2008, I have enjoyed getting insight from students about who they are as people, well before I start formal diagnostics or writing samples. Useful in any subject, this one-page resource provides simple, structured spaces where middle and high school-aged students can share about their favorite things, information about their guardians, strengths, weaknesses, hobbies, and favorite and least favorite classes.
I have included a simple LP that is especially useful for teachers of English Language Learner-focused classes, but essentially, I suggest you use it like this:
1. Introduce yourself as a person via a PPT that briefly details your history.
2. After sharing details about yourself and your hobbies, ask students to share theirs aloud.
3. Hand out the "Getting to Know You" sheet, explain each question if needed, and pace students by suggesting the order in which they complete each box, and then timing them. (Ex. "Okay! First, please take the next minute or two to fill in the first box with your name, age, birthday, hometown, and the person you live with, like a parent, relative, or other guardian.")
The file contains an A4 PDF, a letter-size PDF, and the suggested lesson plan that also provides logos and links to all the artists. That's it!

INCLUDED IN THE CORNELL NOTES SELF-INTRODUCTION SHEET FOLDER:
This self-introduction handout is appropriate for native speakers and EFL/EAL/ESL students because there are two versions:
1. One that uses only key words, instead of giving a lot of detail, on the left side in the cue column. This should be used with high school or high-level ESL/EAL/EFL speakers, like, perhaps, nearly-fluent university students; and
2. A second version that gives more detail, so that students with a lower grasp of English can still practice the Cornell Notes method.
Click here for more details on how to use this handout and the Cornell Notes method.
