What educators are saying

OMG this resource is one the best resource. My students and I love it where we act out as cooking shelfs to memorize the different parts of an author purpose but when it came to the activities. The response I receive were incredible I recommend this resource to any teacher that purchase this.
I used this with a 5th grade intervention group and it was a great review for them and it nicely broke the skill down into more manageable chunks for them.

Description

Are you searching for a step-by-step PowerPoint that can be used to introduce the topic of author's purpose to your students in a way that will grab their attention? You've come to the right place! This 53-slide PowerPoint features 5 types of author's purpose: persuade, inform, entertain, explain, and describe.

After providing definitions and examples, students are given the opportunity to read many practice passages and determine the author's purpose for writing the passage. This author's purpose activity goes a step further than what is required in most author's purpose resources. Not only are students required to provide the verb (persuade, inform, entertain, explain, or describe), but they are also expected to complete the statement and tell WHAT the author is trying to explain, inform, or describe or HOW the author is trying to persuade or entertain the reader.

PowerPoints filled with visuals are ideal for teaching new content to students because PowerPoints tend to be highly engaging and concepts can be easily broken down into understandable chunks of information. But let's face it... they are so time-consuming to create! Fortunately, now you have an option of using one that is already complete, kid-tested, and ready to go for you!

***A 3-page PowerPoint companion handout is also included in this file. Students can follow along and record answers on this handout as you progress through the PowerPoint! The companion handout is available in both printable format or digital format.**

⭐️ Lauren D. said, "This resource was easy to use for my 4th grade self-contained classroom. I used the slideshow as our mini-lesson and students were very engaged. A good resource for higher-level author's purpose questions, as opposed to the PIE acronym I have taught in past years.

⭐️ Kimberly H. said, "Great resource! VERY well made & easy to use. The slides are beautiful & engaging. This set includes everything you need to teach the concept from beginning to end. Plus, it provides tons of practice at various levels, for gradual release of learning. I highly recommend this set..."

⭐️ Kelly W. said, "This was just what I was looking for! It is much more in-depth than just using pie. My students really seemed to get this!"
