Description
Use this author's purpose worksheet during the month of November to give your students an opportunity to review how to identify an author's purposes for writing a passage. This is an educational worksheet that students can complete before Thanksgiving. Students read five short passages related to Thanksgiving. They must determine whether the author's purpose is to persuade, entertain, inform, explain, or describe. Students are also asked to justify their answers.
********This resource is available in three formats:
- Traditional Printables- Print the PDF and distribute the pencil-and-paper worksheet.
- Easel Activity- With this paperless format, an interactive layer has been added to the original PDF! Students can complete this activity on a device. Students read each passage and then type the author's purpose in the answer box.
- Easel Assessment- Students complete this self-grading quiz on a device, as well. After reading a passage, students select the author's purpose from a list of four possible answer choices. With this option, the teacher chooses whether or not his or her students receive immediate feedback.
