Learning Objective
Students will refer to these author's purpose posters as they are identifying an author's primary purpose for writing a literary piece or passage.
Description
This poster set features the more advanced version of Author's Purpose: PIE'ED! Each poster includes an explanation of the term and an example reading passage so students can see how an author might write for each purpose. The five featured types of author's purpose include:
- persuade
- inform
- entertain
- explain
- describe
I used to teach this skill using the PIE method, but quickly realized that my 4th and 5th grade students were not adequately prepared for state tests when I only used verbs like "persuade", "inform", and "entertain". A few years ago, I switched to the PIE'ED method and created my own materials to use. You can click on the links below to take a peek at my other PIE'ED products!
