Description
Do you want to teach your students to analyze an author's craft, but don't quite know where to start? This author's craft bundle contains three resources. In creating these engaging activities, I focused on six techniques used by authors, including imagery, voice, figurative language, analogy, sentence fluency, and interesting use of language.
This is how I envision this bundle being used:
Day 1- Use the PowerPoint to introduce this concept to students. Each technique is explained, and an example excerpt from a published book follows. In all, 21 book excerpts are included in this PowerPoint. (You have my permission to convert this to Google Slides, if you wish. For the companion handout, you choose whether you want to use the printable version or the Google Slides version.)
Day 2- Use the Author's Craft Foldable Activity that features 11 excerpts from Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson. This is an ideal follow-up activity because the book excerpts are provided, and students complete tasks that highlight how the given technique is displayed in each excerpt.
Day 3- Use the Author's Craft Foldable Activity that can be used with ANY BOOK. Most of your students will be ready to choose their own book and complete this activity independently. They must search through fiction books and find an example of each technique.
Check out the PREVIEW of each individual activity by clicking on the link provided.
