Description

What do these terms mean for citizens of Australia? This simple but highly effective sorting activity will help your students define and identify their roles as Australian citizens.

As a class or in small groups your students will be asked to brainstorm and record their current beliefs, ideas and opinions on what Rights, Privileges and Responsibilities are and how they differ from each other. They will then define the word using a reliable source such as a dictionary or reliable website and record their understanding of that definition. Finally, they can revise their original ideas on what Rights, Privileges and Responsibilities are.

To consolidate their learning, and to provide an opportunity for assessment, students will be able to complete an interactive sorting activity. By working individually or in pairs using discussion and evaluation students will sort 12 scenarios into foldable pockets for Rights, Privileges and Responsibilities. This not only consolidates their learning and checks understanding but it also facilitates discussion about their roles as Australian citizens and encourages thinking and discussion about their role as global citizens.

An answer key is included to make marking a breeze!
