Australia Packet

This packet will introduce students to the Australian continent. Students will locate Australia on a world map, and identify major landmarks. Students will diagram the diverse ecosystems in Australia. Students will examine the Australian outback as a living ecosystem, and illustrate an example food chain. Students will evaluate animal adaptations, and infer how they would enable an animal to survive in the Outback. Students will explore daily life in a coastal town in Australia and compare and contrast it with their own. Students will read about the Aboriginal custom of Walkabout and compare and contrast it with rites of passage in their own culture. Students will evaluate stereotypes of Australians in popular media, and evaluate how it impacts the self-image of Australians. Students will practice telling-time skills by translating time from US to the time in Australia, based on time zones.
