Atlantic Slave Trade - Life on the Slave Ships (Source Analysis with Key) - This 17 page Atlantic Slave Trade package includes engaging and informative sources (visual and text) related to what life was like for the slaves aboard the slave ships during the Atlantic Slave Trade. The sources truly capture the realities of the living conditions for the slaves that made the dangerous journey across the Atlantic (Middle Passage) during the Atlantic Slave Trade.
The source makes use of excerpts from Olaudah Equiano's Interesting Narrative!
The packages also includes a range of activities related to the sources. Included the teacher will find a set of 10 questions (analysis and comprehension) that requires students to think critically in order to develop their ideas in relation to what life was like for the slaves aboard the ships during the Atlantic Slave Trade. The questions come with a detailed teacher key.
The package also includes a writing assignment related to the living conditions aboard the slave ships during the Atlantic Slave Trade. The teacher will find a writing assignment that requires students to develop a perspective and utilize historical evidence related to the events of the Atlantic Slave Trade and what it was like for the slaves aboard the slave ships. The assignment involves writing a letter from the perspective of a group that is against the Atlantic Slave Trade. A teacher key and marking rubric are included in the package for the assignment.
The package also include another assignment that can be done instead of the writing assignment. This assignment is a poster assignment wherein students must create a protest poster that an abolitionist group would have likely made to protest the Atlantic Slave Trade using the conditions aboard the slave ships as evidence.
