Description

This is a perfect way to teach the basics of modern art - from impressionism all the way to current working contemporary artists from post-modernism

This is a student-led history presentation that works wonders because instead of just lecturing, they really listen to each other.

It includes:

✤a project handout that goes through the main artists for each movement/dates/their key art pieces

a matching Powerpoint/PDF version with the artist/artwork on a slide to make set-up really fast (and doesn't rely on the student because they'll forget!)

✤a "MY ARTIST" / "THE ISMS OR ART" organization handouts to structure their presentation so they cover the important aspects

It covers all the main movements - including:

PRE-modernism romanticism and realism so they really understand the context for the change and shift to "modernism"

MODERNISM

  • impressionism/post impressionism
  • fauvism
  • cubism
  • futurism
  • expressionism
  • dada/surrealism
  • constructivism/abstraction
  • social protest art murals
  • abstract expressionism/colour field

POST MODERNISM

  • pop art
  • op art
  • minimalism
  • conceptual art
  • performance art
  • photo realism
  • earth art/land art
  • installation art

-54 artists and artworks are included so it can easily be assigned 1 movement or artist per student (I do some in between to keep them on track on what I want covered - you could also assign 2 per student)

*NOTES

-I include a quick mark /10 for these

-We present these for five minutes at the beginning of each class. I assign students a movement I think they'll either love/hate (to keep it interesting!) and I have the included Powerpoint open with the artists ready, so it's super easy and ready to go.

-Some of these may be better suited for older students, such as Yoko Ono's "Cut Pieces" artwork. Please keep that in mind. You could always just eliminate anyones you may be uncomfortable with.

✔It's uploaded as a zipped file with both a Powerpoint and PDF to help with any layout issues and so you can edit it to suit your class needs
