What educators are saying

I used this resource with my advanced 5th grade math students who are working independently at the 6th grade level. They were able to collaborate together to find the areas, and enjoyed coloring the wheel once they finished. Not too easy, not too challenging.
My students loved to use this for notes as opposed to a regular paper of notes. They were much more engaged, and loved the coloring part afterwards with the examples. Great resource to keep lower level students interested in the lesson.

Description

Taking notes about area of quadrilaterals and triangles has never been more engaging!

Use this Area Doodle Math Wheel to introduce finding areas of different shapes – rectangles, squares, parallelograms, trapezoids, and triangles.

Or, use the wheel as a review/study guide after students have learned the concepts. Students can keep the organizer in their notebooks or binders as a resource/study tool. (If you need the shapes to use fractional sides, check out Area Math Wheel - Fractional Sides.)

Area Math Wheel sections include:

  • rectangles
  • squares
  • parallelograms
  • trapezoids
  • triangles

Features of this easy-to-use area resource:

1) Notes sections and examples

  • Each section has a shape, with dimensions labeled.
  • Each section has a spot for students to fill in the formula.
  • There is space to show the calculations to find the area of each shape given.

2) Guided or individual practice:

  • 8 shapes, with dimensions, around the outside of the circle, for which students should find the area.
  • Extra challenge - several of the shapes around the circle are composite shapes made of rectangles – students can measure and find the areas of those shapes.

3) Coloring/doodling opportunity: students can color the background pattern for fun, as well as the headings and doodle arrows.

4) Key and sample with notes and examples in each wheel section

5) PPT file that's a blank wheel with background, so you can add text to make your own math wheels, if you’d like (for classroom use only - not commercial use).
