Description

Area and Perimeter of Squares Math Worksheet Geometry Matching Activity

This is a no-prep printable challenge.

The worksheet has 36 boxes each showing a measurement for a square.

Students need to match pairs of measurements to make 18 squares.

E.g., Side = 7cm would match with Area = 49cm squared.

One side length has not been filled in.

The challenge is for students to work out the missing answer to make 18 matching pairs.

All measurements are in centimetres.

All answers are included.

Contents:

This resource includes:

  • 1 Worksheet – with 36 measurements for various squares.
  • Teachers notes.
  • All answers.

Objectives:

To practice: -

  • Metric Measurements
  • Finding the area of squares when given the side length.
  • Finding the perimeter of squares when given the side length.
  • Finding the side length when given the area of a square.
  • Finding the side length when given the perimeter of a square.

Directions:

Give each student a worksheet.

Students need to match pairs of measurements to correctly make 18 squares.

There will be one measurement left over and one side is missing, so you can easily check if students have got it right.

Notes:

All answers are included, so you can easily mark students work.

These questions should take at least half an hour for students to complete.

They can be done without a calculator.

Suggestions:

  • To make this task easier, students may like to cut out the answers to match them.
  • You could make this into a timed challenge for students.
  • As an extension task, students could work out the 3rd measurement for each of the 18 squares.

Apply the area and perimeter formulas for rectangles in real world and mathematical problems. For example, find the width of a rectangular room given the area of the flooring and the length, by viewing the area formula as a multiplication equation with an unknown factor.
Find the area of right triangles, other triangles, special quadrilaterals, and polygons by composing into rectangles or decomposing into triangles and other shapes; apply these techniques in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems.
Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving area, volume and surface area of two- and three-dimensional objects composed of triangles, quadrilaterals, polygons, cubes, and right prisms.
