What educators are saying

My students absolutely LOVED this activity. They worked eagerly and independently. We displayed their floor plans in our hallway. They were extremely proud of the work they were able to do on their own!
My students had so much fun with this! After the initial project I let the kids design another one and I had a student build multiple floors. This was a great way to end our module and keep them busy before winter break.

Printing Notes:

While I recommend printing in color and laminating materials for future use, it is not necessary. These materials print just fine in grayscale. I would suggest printing "as image" to avoid any potential issues. Additionally, download the resource to your computer, open it, and then print. Printing from your browser often creates problems.

Recognize area as an attribute of plane figures and understand concepts of area measurement.
Measure areas by counting unit squares (square cm, square m, square in, square ft, and improvised units).
Relate area to the operations of multiplication and addition.
Solve real world and mathematical problems involving perimeters of polygons, including finding the perimeter given the side lengths, finding an unknown side length, and exhibiting rectangles with the same perimeter and different areas or with the same area and different perimeters.
Apply the area and perimeter formulas for rectangles in real world and mathematical problems. For example, find the width of a rectangular room given the area of the flooring and the length, by viewing the area formula as a multiplication equation with an unknown factor.
