Architecture Unit Plan for Elementary Art

This unit on architecture as a form of art was created for the use in the elementary art classroom (originally for a K-2nd grade age level, but could easily be adapted for any elementary level).
It features 4 separate complete lesson plans, lesson adaptations for younger students and students with special needs, resource ideas to use in teaching about architecture, and handouts.
Students will learn what architecture is, what an architect does, what kinds of homes we may see in different parts of the world and homes used in past history. Students should understand what rural, urban, and suburban areas are and what we might see in those areas of our country. Students explore with observational drawing, line drawing, watercolors, and 3-D paper sculptures.
Students also will look at the famous American Architect, Frank Lloyd Wright. They will discuss his buildings, designs, and famous stained glass. Using some of the Elements of Art (Shape and Line) they will create their own stained glass designs.
